Closing Down a Business with Brigitte Lyons

Hey Reader,

Nothing lasts forever.

Not an enthralling memoir (🩢 Brittany), a bag of Miss Vickie's salt and vinegar potato chips or our own companies.

And closing a business is what Brigitte Lyons is here to talk about.

She founded Podcast Ally in 2019 and recently shut the whole dang thing down. She shares what it was like when that first niggly thought of "Maybe I need to let this go" arrived, how she involved her team, and the difficulty of announcing it publicly.

There's an attitude of hustle, hustle, hurry hard until you reach your goal, and there's a lot of shame and a sense of wrongdoing if you choose to close your company.

We need to talk openly about closing businesses and changing course.

And so we are.

Hey Reader, You don't need to think for your students. Here's what I mean:🚁 Teacher Sally booked all her student's classes for them. She didn't want them to go through the effort of clicking to sign up for their next class. 🚁 Teacher Jane planned a 4-month launch so that the launch emails were spaced out over a long period of time. She didn't want to annoy her audience with frequent emails. 🚁 Teacher Ann priced her course so low that she had to take a part-time job to survive. She didn't want...

Hey Reader, Six-figures. The sought-after revenue goal with two commas and five plump, confident-building zeros. I'm working on some material around changes you need to make to earn six figures (which will be showing up in your inbox soon), and it occurred to me that many of you may have already made six figures."Whaaat?"I know! That's why I had to send this sooner than later. When you hear "make six figures," my guess is that you think of making one hundred thousand in a one-year period, as...

Hi Reader, I witness this strange phenomenon every Tuesday. As part of our Luminaries coaching program, I critique sales emails written by women trying to sell their online programs. Their first drafts often come across as if they're knocking gently on someone's office door and asking in a soft voice, "Oh, hey, hi there. Sorry to bother you, but do you have a minute to listen to my idea? If not, I can come back later." The "office, "of course, is the inbox of their readers. Their whispery...
