Hey Reader, β You don't need to think for your students. π Teacher Ann priced her course so low that she had to take a part-time job to survive. She didn't want to price anyone out. Of course, we want you to think about your students. Of course! But there is "thinking about them," and there is "helicopter parenting" them. Or, perhaps, more accurately, helicopter entreprenur-ing them. π€ͺ A helicopter entrepreneur has excessive involvement in their student's lives and minds. It's driven by the fear that their students might dislike or leave them. Helicopter entrepreneurs believe if they take care of everything (minimal clicks, emails, effort, irritation, and discomfort), then they'll keep all their students. Nobody will leave. Nobody will dislike them. Happy, happy, happy. But here's what I want you to realize: Your students are full-grown adults. You do not need to take care of them like your children. Stay out of their wallets. Stay out of their lives. Stay out of their minds. Pack those excessive nurturing tendencies away. Friend, it's an exhausting way to run a business. By constantly worrying about your student's feelings, you're not growing your business. You're not doing the work your business needs: outlining podcast episodes, planning your next launch, writing a click-worthy YouTube title, partnerships, and improving your newsletter. You're missing out on marketing and growth. I promise you there are people in your audience and current student base who love you, always read your emails, and buy class passes all by themselves!β How would you show up if you knew people really, really, really wanted to work with you? What if you ran your business believing everyone is excited about what you're doing? Land the helicopter. β p.s. The waitlist is now open for the Spring 2024 Luminaries Live Cohort. Hey Reader, Six-figures. The sought-after revenue goal with two commas and five plump, confident-building zeros. I'm working on some material around changes you need to make to earn six figures (which will be showing up in your inbox soon), and it occurred to me that many of you may have already made six figures."Whaaat?"I know! That's why I had to send this sooner than later. When you hear "make six figures," my guess is that you think of making one hundred thousand in a one-year period, as...
Hi Reader, I witness this strange phenomenon every Tuesday. As part of our Luminaries coaching program, I critique sales emails written by women trying to sell their online programs. Their first drafts often come across as if they're knocking gently on someone's office door and asking in a soft voice, "Oh, hey, hi there. Sorry to bother you, but do you have a minute to listen to my idea? If not, I can come back later." The "office, "of course, is the inbox of their readers. Their whispery...
Hi Reader, An opera star taught me how to public speak. I arrived early to the first evening class. But once inside the classroom, I saw that there was no instructor, or notes on the blackboard. Weird. Besides a few sniffles and some butt-shifting in chairs, the seconds ticking on the clock were the only sounds in the classroom. The start time came and went. Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock. I was wondering if this was a mistake. What kind of instructor is late for the first class? Not a good...
